Canada’s first spaceship commander, Colonel Chris Hadfield shares a selection of stories, images, songs and ideas that celebrate the 150th birthday of the nation he is so proud to call home. From his unique perspective, Chris looks at the history and future of Canada through its people and the land itself. Performing songs like his fun-loving, patriotic single “In Canada”, to his evocative “Beyond the Terra” that looks away from the land to the skies, Colonel Hadfield ties his presentation together with stories of great Canadians and tales from his incredible career. In August and September he returns to the BBC to host “Astronauts: Do you Have What it Takes?” The six -part series takes 12 applicants through a process of challenges devised by Chris to test their suitability to become an astronaut. Do they have the right stuff? Chris Hadfield undoubtedly does. During his five month stay on the International Space Station, he became something of an extra-planetary media star. He not only shared extraordinary photos, he tweeted the Queen and William Shatner, talked to school children, strummed his guitar and provided demonstration videos about daily life. On his last day on the ISS, he posted a farewell music video online – his version of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” It instantly went viral, garnering millions of view quickly. It has now been viewed almost 37 million times. An evening with Chris Hadfield will open your eyes to dream the impossible.
